FII Ownership Hits 17-Year Low of 15.1% But Holdings Rise 3.6x

Business Standard · stocks

Foreign institutional investors' holdings in Indian equities have surged 3.6 times since 2012, reaching approximately $783 billion. However, their market share has declined to a 17-year low of 15.1%, according to OmniScience Capital. This divergence is attributed to the faster growth of domestic investor participation, including retail investors, reshaping India's equity ownership landscape. While absolute foreign investment value has grown significantly, a rising domestic presence has diluted the proportional ownership share of FIIs.
