In Zemithang, Arunachal Pradesh, 27 villages and around 6,000 residents are participating in a unique waste management initiative. Every Sunday, families meticulously sort their household waste into 22 distinct categories, including plastics, glass, and metals, before bringing it to community collection points. This rigorous segregation at source, part of the Himalayan Fringes Project, ensures materials are clean and easier to recycle. Households contribute Rs 50 monthly to sustain the collection and transportation of waste to recycling facilities, empowering local women riders in the process.

अरुणाचल प्रदेश के ज़ेमिथांग में 27 गाँव और करीब 6,000 लोग एक अनोखी कचरा प्रबंधन पहल में हिस्सा ले रहे हैं। हर रविवार, परिवार अपने घर के कचरे को प्लास्टिक, कांच और धातु सहित 22 अलग-अलग श्रेणियों में बारीकी से अलग करते हैं, फिर उसे सामुदायिक संग्रह बिंदुओं पर लाते हैं। हिमालयन फ्रिंजेस प्रोजेक्ट का हिस्सा, स्रोत पर यह कठोर अलगाव सुनिश्चित करता है कि सामग्री साफ हो और रीसायकल करने में आसान हो। रीसाइक्लिंग सुविधाओं तक कचरे के संग्रह और परिवहन को बनाए रखने के लिए परिवार हर महीने 50 रुपये का योगदान करते हैं, जिससे स्थानीय महिला सवारों को सशक्त बनाया जाता है।
