Two Iowa farmers have successfully transitioned their family's former hog operation into a speciality mushroom business. After decades in the livestock industry, the Faaborg family ended their hog contract in October 2022. They have repurposed their existing hog barns to grow lion's mane and oyster mushrooms, transforming infrastructure once used for thousands of pigs. Supported by the Transfarmation Project, they are also developing value-added products like mushroom tinctures and flavoured salts, marking a significant shift in their agricultural focus.
