Supreme Court Says Firecracker Orders Violated "Left and Right"
The Hindu · india
The Supreme Court has stated that its year-after-year orders to curb and ban firecrackers during Deepavali have been violated extensively. A bench of Justices M.M. Sundresh and P.B. Varale emphasized that religious freedom is subject to public health and fundamental rights. Justice Sundresh noted that Deepavali was originally a festival of lights, not gunpowder, and excessive firecrackers harm children, the elderly, and the sick. The court urged the Centre and Delhi government to enforce restrictions against sellers of spurious and banned crackers.
