The Hindu · india

Keralam has launched India's first Red List Assessment of Ecosystems (RLE) project to address the severe decline of its natural habitats. Tropical riparian evergreen forests have suffered an 83% loss in the past century due to dam construction and invasive plantations. Other vital ecosystems like myristica swamps and mangroves also face threats from urban expansion and rising sea levels. The one-year project, funded by KSBB and executed by the Kerala Forest Research Institute and MES Asmabi College, aims to shift conservation from species to landscape-wide management.
