US Extends Visa Ban on Palestinian Officials

The United States Department of State has extended visa sanctions on Palestinian Authority and Palestine Liberation Organization officials. This prevents Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas from travelling to New York for the UN General Assembly for the second consecutive year. The US cited failure to reform, undermining peace prospects, and pursuing international recognition outside direct negotiations. The PA mission to the UN retains its waiver for regular staff operations.
