Bengal's Swasthya Sathi Scheme: Over 30 Lakh Beneficiaries Found Untraceable

Bengal's state government has discovered that over 30 lakh beneficiaries enrolled in the Swasthya Sathi scheme during the previous government's tenure are now untraceable. This alarming finding emerged during a verification drive conducted for potential inclusion in the Centre's Ayushman Bharat scheme and the state's Mukhya Mantri Bima Yojana. Officials estimate that the expenditure associated with these potentially fictitious beneficiaries could surpass Rs 25,000 crore. Similar discrepancies have also been noted in other welfare schemes from the prior administration, indicating a systemic issue.
