Uttar Pradesh STF has arrested a former pharmaceutical employee, Bhupinder Singh Chauhan, for his alleged role in diverting codeine-based cough syrups like Phensedyl into the illegal narcotics trade. Chauhan, who evaded arrest since the case surfaced, was apprehended in Lucknow. Investigators believe this network used legitimate drug licenses and distribution channels to supply syrups for illicit consumption across multiple states. Shell firms in Ghaziabad were allegedly used to create false documentation, masking the diversion of these medicines.

उत्तर प्रदेश एसटीएफ ने फेनसेडिल जैसे कोडिन-आधारित खांसी के सिरप को नशीले पदार्थों के अवैध धंधे में मिलाने के कथित आरोप में एक पूर्व फार्मा कर्मचारी, भूपेंद्र सिंह चौहान को गिरफ्तार किया है। चौहान, जो मामला सामने आने के बाद से गिरफ्तारी से बच रहा था, को लखनऊ में पकड़ा गया। जांचकर्ताओं का मानना है कि इस नेटवर्क ने कई राज्यों में अवैध सेवन के लिए सिरप की आपूर्ति करने के लिए वैध दवा लाइसेंस और वितरण चैनलों का इस्तेमाल किया। गाजियाबाद में शेल फर्मों का कथित तौर पर इन दवाओं की हेराफेरी को छिपाने के लिए झूठे दस्तावेज बनाने के लिए इस्तेमाल किया गया था।
