Third Taipan Snake Species Discovered in Australia, Biology Remains Poorly Understood
Times of India · science
Scientists are still seeking answers about the western desert taipan, a lesser-known snake species discovered in a remote part of Western Australia in 2006. Initially mistaken for a western brown snake, it was formally identified as a new taipan species the following year. Despite its relation to the highly venomous inland and coastal taipans, its biology, behaviour, and venom potency remain poorly understood due to its elusive nature and remote habitat. Researchers are working to gather more field observations to fill these knowledge gaps.
