Italy will deploy warships to ensure safe passage for its commercial vessels through the Bab al-Mandeb strait, Defence Minister Guido Crosetto announced. Rome will not wait for a joint European Union decision, as Italy possesses the capabilities to protect the passage. The Bab al-Mandeb is a critical shipping corridor, with 12 to 15 percent of global trade historically passing through it. Its importance has grown significantly, making it vital for oil, gas, and container traffic.
