Researchers have developed an AI tool capable of predicting cancer patients' survival chances using just a single photograph of their face. Trained on over 40 million facial images and data from more than 30,000 cancer patients, the model assigns risk scores, with higher scores indicating a greater likelihood of death within 90 days. While the AI demonstrated accuracy in estimating age and categorizing patients by risk across diverse demographics and cancer types, experts caution it is not yet ready for clinical use.
