China Switches On Underwater Data Centre

China has launched a commercial underwater data centre off Shanghai, submerging approximately 2,000 servers onto the seabed. This facility, powered by an offshore wind farm, utilizes surrounding seawater for cooling, eliminating the need for traditional chillers. The project, a joint venture costing 1.6 billion yuan (approximately Rs 2,100 crore), aims to significantly reduce electricity consumption and land usage compared to onshore data centres.

चीन ने शंघाई के पास समुद्र के नीचे एक कमर्शियल डेटा सेंटर लॉन्च किया है। इसमें करीब 2,000 सर्वर समुद्र तल पर रखे गए हैं। यह सेंटर ऑफशोर विंड फार्म से बिजली लेता है और कूलिंग के लिए समुद्री पानी का इस्तेमाल करता है, जिससे पारंपरिक चिलर की ज़रूरत खत्म हो जाती है। 1.6 अरब युआन (लगभग 2,100 करोड़ रुपये) की लागत वाले इस प्रोजेक्ट से बिजली की खपत और ज़मीन का इस्तेमाल काफी कम होगा।
