Pune Doctor Waives Delivery Bills For Baby Girls, Celebrates Their Births

Dr Ganesh Rakh, a Pune-based gynaecologist, has launched the 'Mulgi Vachva Abhiyan' (Save the Girl Child Campaign) to combat gender discrimination. He waives all delivery charges at his Medicare Hospital for newborn girls, turning their birth into a celebration with cakes and sweets. Dr Rakh was deeply affected by the starkly different reactions families had to the birth of a boy versus a girl. He believes that even changing one family's attitude towards daughters makes his mission worthwhile, having already facilitated over 2,500 free deliveries.

पुणे के स्त्री रोग विशेषज्ञ डॉ. गणेश रख ने लिंग भेदभाव से लड़ने के लिए 'मुलगी वाचवा अभियान' (बेटी बचाओ अभियान) शुरू किया है। वह अपने मेडिकेयर हॉस्पिटल में पैदा होने वाली बेटियों के लिए डिलीवरी का सारा चार्ज माफ कर देते हैं और केक व मिठाइयों से उनके जन्म का जश्न मनाते हैं। डॉ. रख परिवारों की लड़के या लड़की के जन्म पर अलग-अलग प्रतिक्रियाओं से बहुत प्रभावित हुए थे। उनका मानना है कि सिर्फ एक परिवार का बेटियों के प्रति नजरिया बदलना भी उनके मिशन को सार्थक बनाता है, और वह अब तक 2,500 से अधिक मुफ्त डिलीवरी करवा चुके हैं।
