Tensions are high in Ujjain, India, after a section of the Shahi Masjid was partially demolished to widen a road for the upcoming Simhastha Kumbh Mela Hindu pilgrimage in 2028. Muslim residents protested the demolition, fearing it was part of a larger campaign against religious structures. The Ujjain Municipal Corporation initially demanded over seven feet of the mosque's structure, but after discussions and protests, agreed to three feet. A local High Court dismissed a petition to halt the demolition, citing public interest for the large pilgrimage.
