The Hindu · india
A major fire broke out at a waste management facility in Arackappady near Perumbavoor, Kochi, on Monday, engulfing tonnes of non-biodegradable waste and causing thick smoke. The facility, operated by GreenEvotech, was issued a stop memo three months ago by the Vengola grama panchayat and was ordered to close by October 15 due to resident complaints about accumulated garbage. Although 16 people were present, no injuries were reported. The company stated they were relocating and suspected a short circuit caused the blaze, which destroyed segregated waste and machinery.
