The Kerala High Court has stayed the trial proceedings in the death of journalist K.M. Basheer, who died in a 2019 accident involving a car allegedly driven by IAS officer Sriram Venkitaraman. The stay was granted after Basheer's wife, Jaseela, approached the court seeking a new special prosecutor. She expressed concerns about the current prosecutor's experience in handling the complex case with numerous witnesses. The court has directed the government to submit files related to its earlier decision to appoint a special prosecutor.

केरल हाईकोर्ट ने पत्रकार के.एम. बशीर की मौत के मामले में ट्रायल की कार्यवाही पर रोक लगा दी है। बशीर की 2019 में एक एक्सीडेंट में मौत हो गई थी, जिसमें कथित तौर पर IAS अधिकारी श्रीराम वेंकटरमन गाड़ी चला रहे थे। यह रोक बशीर की पत्नी, जसीला के अदालत जाने के बाद लगाई गई, जिन्होंने एक नए स्पेशल प्रॉसिक्यूटर की मांग की थी। उन्होंने वर्तमान प्रॉसिक्यूटर के अनुभव पर चिंता जताई थी, क्योंकि केस में कई गवाह हैं और यह काफी जटिल है। अदालत ने सरकार को स्पेशल प्रॉसिक्यूटर नियुक्त करने के अपने पिछले फैसले से संबंधित फाइलें जमा करने का निर्देश दिया है।
