Murder Convict Gets Relief From HC, Aims To Contest 2027 UP Polls

The court has stayed his conviction and sentence pending his appeal and also granted him bail. Rai argued that he was an active BJP worker and wished to contest the 2027 assembly elections, either independently or on a BJP ticket. The court acknowledged the right to contest elections, stating it is as important as a citizen's livelihood.
