The University of Hyderabad and miBiome Therapeutics LLP have received a patent for a new molecular testing technology. This innovation promises to make testing faster, more efficient, and cost-effective. Developed through a collaborative research initiative during the Covid-19 pandemic, the method uses next-generation sequencing to pool multiple DNA/RNA samples. Each sample is tagged with a unique molecular barcode, allowing individual identification even when pooled. This approach can theoretically distinguish samples from over 92,000 individuals and is scalable to millions.
