Tech Aids Lost Birdsong Recovery: Synthetic Calls Help Sparrows Relearn Old Songs

Times of India - India · india

Scientists are using computer-generated recordings to help birds recover songs lost from their natural habitats. An experiment in Buenos Aires, Argentina, recreated a song from the 1960s for local rufous-collared sparrows. Within three months, a sparrow began incorporating elements of the recreated song into its own vocalisations. This technology could offer a new tool for conservationists to restore lost bird vocalizations, preserve learned behaviours passed between generations, and strengthen efforts to protect endangered bird populations.
