Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay has launched the Maternal Uncle Gold Ring Scheme, providing a one-gram, 22-carat gold ring to eligible babies born in government hospitals and primary health centres. The initiative, named after the traditional role of the maternal uncle, aims to celebrate childbirth and honour motherhood. It is effective retrospectively from June 22, 2026, with 1.28 lakh rings procured for the first phase. Eligibility requires birth in a government facility, mother being a Tamil Nadu resident, and registration under the PICME system.

तमिलनाडु के मुख्यमंत्री सी. जोसेफ विजय ने मातृ चाचा स्वर्ण अंगूठी योजना शुरू की है, जिसके तहत सरकारी अस्पतालों और प्राथमिक स्वास्थ्य केंद्रों में पैदा हुए योग्य बच्चों को एक ग्राम, 22-कैरेट की सोने की अंगूठी दी जाएगी। पारंपरिक रूप से मातृ चाचा की भूमिका के नाम पर रखी गई इस पहल का उद्देश्य बच्चे के जन्म का जश्न मनाना और मातृत्व का सम्मान करना है। यह 22 जून, 2026 से पूर्वव्यापी रूप से प्रभावी है, और पहले चरण के लिए 1.28 लाख अंगूठियां खरीदी गई हैं। पात्रता के लिए सरकारी सुविधा में जन्म, मां का तमिलनाडु का निवासी होना और PICME प्रणाली के तहत पंजीकरण आवश्यक है।
