Karnataka's Food and Consumer Minister Rizwan Arshad has accused major oil companies of selling petrol with more than the mandated 20% ethanol blend. Investigations by the state's Legal Metrology Department reportedly found Indian Oil Corporation pumps selling petrol with 31.2% ethanol, HPCL with up to 30.5%, BPCL with 26%, and Nayara with 25.5%. The minister has demanded legal action against these companies for violating government orders. The government had previously stated that exceeding 20% ethanol blend is an offense, punishable by imprisonment.
