UPI Fees Won't Affect Customers, Sources Say

New UPI fees for person-to-merchant transactions above Rs 2,000 will not be passed on to customers, according to sources. The government is working with payment aggregators and banks to ensure merchants absorb the Merchant Discount Rate (MDR). This charge, capped at Rs 300, applies only to specified higher-value transactions. Most everyday UPI payments below Rs 2,000 remain free, affecting only an estimated 4% of transaction volume. RuPay debit card payments also remain free.

पर ₹2,000 से ऊपर के मर्चेंट ट्रांज़ैक्शन पर लगने वाला नया चार्ज ग्राहकों से नहीं लिया जाएगा। सूत्रों के मुताबिक, सरकार पेमेंट एग्रीगेटर और बैंकों के साथ मिलकर काम कर रही है ताकि यह सुनिश्चित हो सके कि मर्चेंट ही यह MDR (Merchant Discount Rate) वहन करें। यह चार्ज, जो ₹300 तक सीमित है, केवल खास बड़े ट्रांज़ैक्शन पर ही लागू होगा। ज़्यादातर छोटे UPI पेमेंट पहले की तरह फ्री रहेंगे।
