The scheme collected ₹145 crore but faced claims totaling ₹210 crore, with 80% of claims linked to serious illnesses. Insurance companies incurred substantial losses, making them reluctant to renew policies under existing terms. The revised scheme aims to cover a broader age range and address structural issues that led to high payouts, including coverage for pre-existing conditions.

केरल के मुख्यमंत्री वी.डी. सतीसन ने नोर्का केयर स्वास्थ्य बीमा प्रीमियम में बढ़ोतरी का बचाव किया है। उन्होंने कहा कि बीमा दावों की कुल राशि जमा की गई राशि से काफी ज्यादा थी। इस योजना में ₹145 करोड़ जमा हुए थे, लेकिन ₹210 करोड़ के दावे सामने आए। इनमें से 80% दावे गंभीर बीमारियों से जुड़े थे। बीमा कंपनियों को भारी नुकसान हुआ, जिससे वे मौजूदा शर्तों पर पॉलिसियों को नवीनीकृत करने से हिचकिचा रही थीं। संशोधित योजना का उद्देश्य व्यापक आयु सीमा को कवर करना और उन संरचनात्मक मुद्दों को हल करना है जिनके कारण अधिक भुगतान हुआ, जिसमें पहले से मौजूद बीमारियों का कवरेज भी शामिल है।
