Bihar to Build Highways Using River Silt Under NHAI Pact

NHAI will now use silt dredged from Bihar's rivers and reservoirs as a primary material for expanding the state's national highway network. An MoU was signed between NHAI and the Bihar government. Union Minister Nitin Gadkari stated this initiative will help protect the environment, reduce transportation costs, and save time. The move aims to gradually make Bihar flood-free by improving water flow and dredging riverbeds, addressing an annual loss of approximately ₹10,000 crore due to floods.

NHAI अब बिहार की नदियों और जलाशयों से निकाली गई गाद का इस्तेमाल राज्य के राष्ट्रीय राजमार्ग नेटवर्क के विस्तार के लिए मुख्य सामग्री के तौर पर करेगा। NHAI और बिहार सरकार के बीच एक समझौता ज्ञापन (MoU) पर हस्ताक्षर किए गए। केंद्रीय मंत्री नितिन गडकरी ने कहा कि इस पहल से पर्यावरण की सुरक्षा, परिवहन लागत में कमी और समय की बचत होगी। इस कदम का उद्देश्य नदियों के प्रवाह में सुधार और तलछट की निकासी करके धीरे-धीरे बिहार को बाढ़-मुक्त बनाना है, जिससे बाढ़ के कारण होने वाले लगभग ₹10,000 करोड़ के वार्षिक नुकसान को दूर किया जा सके।
