The Indian government has chosen 19 second-level fund managers for its ₹1 trillion Research, Development and Innovation (RDI) Fund. These managers will deploy capital to startups and companies developing new technologies through loans or equity. The selection includes 14 alternative investment funds and five research organizations, with total RDI Fund commitments of ₹7,131 crore. This move is seen as crucial for India's deeptech ecosystem, addressing the long-standing shortage of patient capital for high-risk research and encouraging private investment in emerging technologies.
