A vital elephant corridor connecting Chinnakanal with the Mathikettan region in Idukki has been reopened after the forest department removed unauthorised fencing and obstructions. The corridor had been blocked for a long time due to encroachments and agricultural fences, forcing elephants into human settlements. Its reopening is significant amid rising human-elephant conflict, allowing elephants to access traditional routes for food and water. This move follows a recent fatal elephant attack and subsequent protests demanding the removal of fences. Officials confirmed that fences on legally held land remain unaffected.
