SC Sends Drug Case Accused Back to Jail, Stays HC Bail

The Supreme Court has overturned a Punjab and Haryana High Court bail order for an accused in a Rs 3,000 crore drug trafficking case. The apex court emphasized that the 'mask' is as culpable as the 'face' in such serious crimes. Observing that the accused could serve his 'masters' better in jail, the bench stated that one year in jail is insignificant for such a large-scale operation. The court has asked the accused to surrender within two weeks and directed the prosecution to complete the trial within one year.

सुप्रीम कोर्ट ने 3,000 करोड़ रुपये के ड्रग तस्करी मामले में एक आरोपी को पंजाब और हरियाणा हाई कोर्ट से मिली जमानत के आदेश को पलट दिया है। शीर्ष अदालत ने जोर देकर कहा कि ऐसे गंभीर अपराधों में 'मास्क' उतना ही दोषी है जितना 'चेहरा'। यह देखते हुए कि आरोपी जेल में अपने 'मालिकों' की बेहतर सेवा कर सकता है, बेंच ने कहा कि इतने बड़े पैमाने के ऑपरेशन के लिए जेल में एक साल कुछ भी नहीं है। अदालत ने आरोपी को दो सप्ताह के भीतर आत्मसमर्पण करने के लिए कहा है और अभियोजन पक्ष को एक साल के भीतर मुकदमे को पूरा करने का निर्देश दिया है।
