Solicitor General: Hindu Law Not Based On Manusmriti

Solicitor General Tushar Mehta has stated that Hindu law is not based on the Manusmriti. He clarified that most of India follows the Mitakshara school, which originated before 700 AD and is based on the Yajnavalkya Smriti, granting inheritance rights by birth. The Dayabhaga school, prevalent in Bengal and Assam, was more restrictive.

सॉलिसिटर जनरल तुषार मेहता ने कहा है कि हिंदू कानून मनुस्मृति पर आधारित नहीं है। उन्होंने साफ किया कि भारत में ज्यादातर लोग मिताक्षरा स्कूल को मानते हैं, जो 700 ईस्वी से पहले शुरू हुआ था और यह याज्ञवल्क्य स्मृति पर आधारित है, जो जन्म से ही विरासत का अधिकार देता है। बंगाल और असम में प्रचलित दायभाग स्कूल अधिक प्रतिबंधात्मक था।
