External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar advocated for a more democratic and representative UN Security Council, stating that India and Africa are currently underrepresented in global decision-making. Addressing a gathering in Addis Ababa, he criticized the existing Council for being neither effective nor fair, highlighting the interconnectedness of these shortcomings. Jaishankar emphasized that Africa deserves fair representation in both permanent and non-permanent categories of UNSC membership.

विदेश मंत्री एस जयशंकर ने संयुक्त राष्ट्र सुरक्षा परिषद को अधिक लोकतांत्रिक और प्रतिनिधि बनाने की वकालत की, यह कहते हुए कि भारत और अफ्रीका वर्तमान में वैश्विक निर्णय लेने में कम प्रतिनिधित्व वाले हैं। अदीस अबाबा में एक सभा को संबोधित करते हुए, उन्होंने मौजूदा परिषद को अप्रभावी और अनुचित दोनों बताया, और इन कमियों की परस्पर संबद्धता पर प्रकाश डाला। जयशंकर ने इस बात पर जोर दिया कि अफ्रीका को UNSC की स्थायी और अस्थायी दोनों श्रेणियों में उचित प्रतिनिधित्व मिलना चाहिए।
