CAG: Hotels, Schools Encroach On Protected Land

A CAG audit has revealed that hotels, educational institutions, and commercial establishments have encroached upon protected forest land and eco-sensitive zones in Bhubaneswar and Puri. The report highlights significant failures in land-use monitoring, with authorities neglecting to prevent unauthorized conversions and master plan violations. Over 31 acres in total were found to be used in violation of land-use plans, with specific instances including institutions occupying forest land and developments within wildlife sanctuaries. These violations raise serious concerns about environmental protection and regulatory oversight in Odisha's growing urban areas.

एक CAG ऑडिट से पता चला है कि भुवनेश्वर और पुरी में होटलों, शैक्षणिक संस्थानों और व्यावसायिक प्रतिष्ठानों ने संरक्षित वन भूमि और इको-सेंसिटिव ज़ोन पर अतिक्रमण किया है। रिपोर्ट में भूमि-उपयोग की निगरानी में महत्वपूर्ण विफलताओं पर प्रकाश डाला गया है, जिसमें अधिकारियों ने अनधिकृत रूपांतरणों और मास्टर प्लान के उल्लंघन को रोकने में लापरवाही बरती है। कुल मिलाकर 31 एकड़ से अधिक भूमि का उपयोग भूमि-उपयोग योजनाओं के उल्लंघन में पाया गया, जिसमें संस्थानों द्वारा वन भूमि पर कब्जा करना और वन्यजीव अभयारण्यों के भीतर विकास जैसे विशिष्ट मामले शामिल हैं। इन उल्लंघनों से ओडिशा के बढ़ते शहरी क्षेत्रों में पर्यावरण संरक्षण और नियामक निरीक्षण के बारे में गंभीर चिंताएं पैदा होती हैं।
