In India, gold holds significant emotional and cultural value, leading to mandatory hallmarking for gold jewellery since June 2021. However, certain gold items are exempt from this rule and thus incur no hallmarking fee. These exemptions include items weighing less than 2 grams, Kundan and Polki jewellery, and items intended for export or specific industrial uses. Additionally, gold bars, coins, watches, and fountain pens are also exempt.
