Nifty Hits Five-Month Low Amid Market Selloff

India's Nifty benchmark closed at its lowest in over five months on Thursday, falling 1.64% to 23,063.1. The BSE Sensex also dropped 1.67%. This broad market selloff, particularly in banks and NBFCs, was driven by high oil prices and rising US Treasury yields. Top losers included HDFC Life Insurance and Bajaj Finance. The market capitalisation of BSE-listed companies decreased by ₹2.7 trillion. Investor caution rose as the India Vix jumped 22.8%.
