Reservation Faculty Match Peers in Teaching, Research Despite Fewer PhDs: Study

A new study examining faculty at Indian engineering colleges, including IITs, found that reservation-category faculty perform on par with their general-category counterparts in teaching and research. Despite often having lower academic qualifications and fewer senior positions, students taught by reservation-category faculty scored marginally higher in immediate course exams. The study found no significant differences in longer-term academic outcomes like attendance, dropout rates, or graduation. Researchers suggest further investigation in other settings.
