Economic Times Markets · stocks
India's market regulator, SEBI, has recommended the government remove the long-term capital gains (LTCG) tax for foreign investors to galvanise equity markets. The regulator also proposed tax relief for domestic mutual fund investors, suggesting exemption from LTCG when switching existing holdings to new ones. These recommendations aim to reduce the upfront tax burden and improve India's market attractiveness. Foreign investors have sold a record $31 billion in Indian stocks this year, and SEBI's proposals follow extensive meetings with them.
