Italy's government has approved new school regulations banning face-covering Islamic veils like burqas and niqabs, and limiting the number of students with poor Italian language skills in classrooms. Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni stated the measures are for security and integration, aiming to prevent "ghetto classes" and ensure equal opportunities for all students. The decree affects approximately 1,000 classrooms nationwide, representing 0.3% of the total. While the ban allows hijabs, critics argue it could lead to discrimination and force students to travel further for schooling.
