Retired DGP R. Sreelekha has resigned as a councillor from the Sasthamangalam ward in the Thiruvananthapuram Corporation, where she represented the BJP. She submitted her resignation letter on September 30, citing personal inconveniences. Sreelekha, the first woman IPS officer and DGP in Kerala, had won the ward on a BJP ticket. Her resignation reduces the ruling front's strength in the 101-member civic body to 50 councillors. Mayor V.V. Rajesh stated that discussions are underway and denied any controversy behind the move.

सेवानिवृत्त डीजीपी आर. श्रीलेखा ने तिरुवनंतपुरम निगम के शास्तमंगलम वार्ड से बीजेपी की ओर से पार्षद पद से इस्तीफा दे दिया है। उन्होंने 30 सितंबर को व्यक्तिगत असुविधाओं का हवाला देते हुए अपना इस्तीफा सौंपा था। केरल की पहली महिला आईपीएस अधिकारी और डीजीपी श्रीलेखा ने बीजेपी के टिकट पर यह वार्ड जीता था। उनके इस्तीफे से 101 सदस्यीय निगम निकाय में सत्तारूढ़ दल की ताकत घटकर 50 पार्षद रह गई है। मेयर वी.वी. राजेश ने कहा कि चर्चाएं चल रही हैं और इस कदम के पीछे किसी भी विवाद से इनकार किया।
