Retail Investors Borrow $234 Million For Jio Debut Trading
Business Standard Markets · stocks
Indian retail investors borrowed ₹2,228 crore ($234 million) to trade Jio Platforms shares on its debut day, making it the fourth-largest margin-funded stock. The strong listing-day demand encouraged traders to take on more risk, with Jio's shares jumping 26.7% to value the company at around $137 billion. This heavy first-day borrowing occurred after recent retail margin-call liquidations reduced India's overall cash market margin trading book. Jio Platforms became eligible for margin funding from its first session due to its classification by the National Stock Exchange and BSE.
