Actress Fatima Sana Shaikh has highlighted a lack of well-written female comedy characters in Hindi entertainment, stating that women are often reduced to stereotypes. She argued that comedy can be effective without making women the butt of jokes, criticizing slapstick as inherently sexist. Shaikh praised actresses like Vidya Balan, Juhi Chawla, Madhuri Dixit, and Preity Zinta for their distinct comic timings and diverse roles in earlier cinema. She noted a current trend towards thrillers and darker stories, with fewer lighthearted films being produced.
