Chromium Contamination Up To 59 Times Limit Near Kanpur Airport

Soil samples near the former Chakeri Airport terminal in Kanpur have revealed chromium contamination levels up to 59 times the regulatory threshold. The findings are part of a survey report submitted by IIT-Kanpur to the National Green Tribunal. IIT-Kanpur investigated chromium and mercury contamination across Kanpur Nagar, Kanpur Dehat, and Fatehpur districts. The survey involved collecting 121 soil, surface-water, and groundwater samples from various hotspots. The project, allocated Rs 2.655 crore, aims to assess heavy-metal contamination and recommend restoration measures.

कानपुर के पुराने चेकेरी एयरपोर्ट टर्मिनल के पास मिट्टी के नमूनों में क्रोमियम का प्रदूषण नियामक सीमा से 59 गुना ज़्यादा पाया गया है। यह जानकारी IIT-Kanpur की ओर से National Green Tribunal को सौंपी गई एक सर्वे रिपोर्ट का हिस्सा है। IIT-Kanpur ने कानपुर नगर, कानपुर देहात और फतेहपुर जिलों में क्रोमियम और मर्करी प्रदूषण की जांच की थी। इस सर्वे में विभिन्न हॉटस्पॉट से मिट्टी, सतही जल और भूजल के 121 नमूने एकत्र किए गए थे। 2.655 करोड़ रुपये के इस प्रोजेक्ट का मकसद भारी धातु प्रदूषण का आकलन करना और सुधार के उपाय सुझाना है।
