The Jumeirah Hotel in Dubai has launched an ambitious coral conservation project, Dubai Reef, aiming to restore biodiversity along the city's coastline. Initially a pilot project in 2023, the initiative has already produced 2,500 coral fragments, with over 300 successfully transplanted to the sea. The project utilizes man-made lagoons, originally for sea turtle rehabilitation, transforming them into the world's first coral nursery. These lagoons are designed to provide essential breeding grounds and shelter for new coral growth, addressing issues like dislocation from construction and risks from siltation.
