The Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi) has relaxed Know Your Client (KYC) norms for non-resident Indians (NRIs), Overseas Citizens of India (OCIs), and foreign nationals. This allows them to complete the onboarding process digitally from overseas, reducing compliance burdens for accessing Indian securities markets. Individuals in FATF-compliant countries can now submit documents digitally without physical presence. Sebi also introduced portability of KYC records across intermediaries and eased documentation requirements, accepting overseas addresses and allowing Video In-Person Verification (VIPV) where physical verification is not feasible.
