A powerful magnitude 7.7 earthquake struck Panama on Friday morning, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. The tremors were felt in the capital, Panama City, causing buildings to shake and prompting evacuations. The U.S. National Tsunami Warning Center issued a tsunami threat for Panama and Ecuador following the seismic event. The earthquake's epicenter was located near the southern tip of the country, southwest of Pitaloza Arriba.
