China Unlikely To Back India's UNSC Seat Bid

Former US National Security Adviser John Bolton stated that China is unlikely to support India's bid for a permanent seat on the UN Security Council. He believes China prefers the current structure of five permanent members, including itself, and would likely veto any UN Charter amendment needed for expansion. Bolton noted that attempts to reform the council have continued for decades without success, and he sees little prospect for change.
