Hindustan Times · world

Four Canadian soldiers have died and 39 others were injured, 19 critically, after a fast-moving grass fire swept through troops during live-fire combat exercises at Canadian Forces Base Wainwright in Alberta. Officials had allowed training to continue, believing the fire was under control, but a sudden wind shift propelled the flames towards the soldiers. Prime Minister Mark Carney called it one of Canada's worst peacetime military tragedies on home soil. The fire was fuelled by winds reaching 96 km/hour, rapidly engulfing the area.
