Brazil's Amazon Deforestation Hits All-Time Low

The Hindu - International · world

Deforestation in Brazil's Amazon rainforest has fallen to its lowest recorded level in the 12 months leading up to July. Approximately 3,335 square kilometers of jungle were destroyed, marking a significant 42% decrease from the previous period. This achievement is the lowest in the historical series dating back to 1988. The data, released by Brazil's space research agency Inpe, shows a substantial reduction from the nearly 30,000 square kilometers destroyed annually in the mid-1990s. This decline is attributed to political will aimed at curbing deforestation.
