Sensors to Detect Defects in Concrete Structures, Experts Say

Experts at an international seminar in Prayagraj have proposed embedding special piezoelectric (PZT) sensors in concrete during construction to continuously monitor the strength and detect hidden deterioration in bridges and buildings. These sensors can record minute changes within the material, allowing engineers to assess strengthening rates and load-bearing capacity without destructive testing. The technology can also monitor vibrations in bridges and heritage structures, providing early warnings of damage before visible cracks appear.

प्रयागराज में एक अंतरराष्ट्रीय सेमिनार में विशेषज्ञों ने सुझाव दिया है कि पुलों और इमारतों में निर्माण के दौरान खास पीजोइलेक्ट्रिक (PZT) सेंसर लगाए जाएं। ये सेंसर कंक्रीट की मजबूती और छिपी हुई खराबी पर लगातार नजर रखेंगे। ये सेंसर मटेरियल में छोटे-छोटे बदलावों को रिकॉर्ड कर सकते हैं, जिससे इंजीनियर बिना तोड़फोड़ वाली जांच के मजबूती की दर और भार वहन क्षमता का पता लगा सकेंगे। यह तकनीक पुलों और ऐतिहासिक ढांचों में कंपन की निगरानी भी कर सकती है, जिससे दिखने वाले दरारें आने से पहले ही नुकसान की शुरुआती चेतावनी मिल जाएगी।
