बॉम्बे हाई कोर्ट ने मुंबई की बिगड़ती हवा की क्वालिटी पर सख्त नाराज़गी जताई है, और कहा है कि यह दिल्ली के प्रदूषण के स्तर को पार कर गई है। कोर्ट ने सवाल किया कि प्रदूषण नियंत्रण के लिए ज़िम्मेदार अधिकारी नागरिकों के कष्ट झेलने के दौरान कैसे चैन की नींद सो सकते हैं। कोर्ट ने BMC, महाराष्ट्र प्रदूषण नियंत्रण बोर्ड और मुंबई पुलिस की आलोचना की कि वे त्योहारों के दौरान ध्वनि प्रदूषण और पटाखों पर दिए गए निर्देशों को लागू करने में विफल रहे। कोर्ट ने चेतावनी दी कि निष्क्रियता के कारण ज़िम्मेदार अधिकारियों के खिलाफ कार्रवाई हो सकती है, और इस बात पर ज़ोर दिया कि प्रदूषण नागरिकों के मौलिक अधिकारों का उल्लंघन करता है।
