Pulicat Fishermen Seek GPS Demarcation of Fishing Grounds

Fishermen from Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh have urged their respective governments to demarcate fishing grounds in Pulicat lake using GPS technology. The current method of using palmyrah tree trunks is unreliable as they rot and lead to disputes. A violent incident in 2014, stemming from a fishing border dispute, resulted in significant losses and pending police cases. Leaders hope GPS marking will bring peace and lead to the dropping of these cases. The district collectors have stated the current system will continue until governments decide.
