Bank Cut FD Rate From 7.75% To 3.5%; Delhi High Court Orders Higher Interest

Times of India - Business · business

The Delhi High Court has ruled in favour of a fixed deposit holder whose bank drastically reduced the interest rate on his Rs 5.89-crore FD from 7.75% to 3.5%. The court ordered the bank to pay the highest applicable interest rate on the deposit, granting relief. The FD was opened as per a court order in 2008 to secure funds during a dispute resolution. The bank had argued it could lower rates as the FD was not renewed, but failed to prove comparable deposits also saw rate cuts.
