Supreme Court Mandates Separate Toilets, Bar Rooms For Women Lawyers Across India

The Supreme Court has issued a strict directive to all states, union territories, and high courts to establish separate and secure bar rooms and toilets for women lawyers in every court across India. Chief Justice of India emphasized that no excuses for the lack of basic infrastructure will be accepted, deeming it a moral and legal responsibility of states and high courts. Data revealed that facilities are minimal or non-existent in many places, with Punjab having women's washrooms in only 9 out of 67 district court complexes.

सुप्रीम कोर्ट ने सभी राज्यों, केंद्र शासित प्रदेशों और हाई कोर्ट को पूरे भारत में हर अदालत में महिला वकीलों के लिए अलग और सुरक्षित बार रूम और शौचालय बनाने का सख़्त निर्देश दिया है। भारत के मुख्य न्यायाधीश ने ज़ोर देकर कहा कि बुनियादी ढांचे की कमी के लिए कोई बहाना स्वीकार नहीं किया जाएगा, और इसे राज्यों और हाई कोर्ट की नैतिक और कानूनी ज़िम्मेदारी माना जाएगा। आंकड़ों से पता चला कि कई जगहों पर सुविधाएं बहुत कम या न के बराबर हैं, पंजाब में केवल 67 जिला अदालत परिसरों में से 9 में ही महिलाओं के लिए वॉशरूम हैं।
